Topic: Medzi osobnou pohodou a ľudským rozkvetom: hodnoty, cnosti a sociálno‑emocionálne zručnosti vo výchove a vzdelávaní
Languages: Slovak, Czech
Annotation:
Well‑being je zastrešujúci pojem, ktorý nadobúda v jednotlivých teoretických prístupoch odlišný význam. Zvyčajne spája s osobnou pohodou, spokojnosťou so životom a psychickým, sociálnym či telesným fungovaním. Jeho subjektívne chápanie zahŕňa kognitívne hodnotenie spokojnosti so životom a afektívnu rovnováhu medzi pozitívnym a negatívnym prežívaním (Diener, 1984). Koncepcie psychologického well‑beingu zdôrazňujú tiež autonómiu, osobný rast, zvládanie prostredia, zmysluplnosť života, pozitívne vzťahy a sebaprijatie (Ryff, 1989).
A možno ideu ľudského rozkvetu uplatniť v pluralitnom vzdelávacom prostredí bez presadzovania jediného modelu dobrého života? Bude pritom stačiť rozlíšiť medzi tzv. hedonickou pohodou (hedonic wellbeing) a eudaimonickou pohodou (eudaimonic wellbeing; Ryan & Deci, 2001; Huta & Waterman, 2014)?
Cnosti teda možno chápať ako relatívne stabilné dispozície, ktoré človeku umožňujú primerane vnímať situácie, cítiť, usudzovať a konať z dobrých dôvodov (Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues, 2022; Kristjánsson, 2018).
Sociálno‑emocionálne učenie je proces, prostredníctvom ktorého si ľudia osvojujú a uplatňujú poznatky, zručnosti a postoje potrebné na utváranie zdravej identity, reguláciu emócií, empatiu, vytváranie podporných vzťahov a zodpovedné rozhodovanie. Jeho jadro tvorí päť vzájomne prepojených oblastí: sebauvedomenie, sebaregulácia, sociálne uvedomenie, vzťahové zručnosti a zodpovedné rozhodovanie (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning [CASEL], 2020).
Hodnoty, cnosti a sociálno‑emocionálne zručnosti sa môžu navzájom podporovať, nemožno ich však stotožniť. Deklarovaná hodnota ani poznanie dobra ešte nezaručujú zodpovedajúce konanie, čo poukazuje na širší problém priepasti medzi morálnym poznaním a konaním, tzv. knowledge‑action gap (Darnell et al., 2019). Sociálno‑emocionálna zručnosť bez primeranej morálnej orientácie môže slúžiť rozličným cieľom, zatiaľ čo cnosť predstavuje hodnotovo orientovanú a relatívne stabilnú dispozíciu, ktorá spája poznanie a úsudok, motiváciu a emócie s praktickým konaním (Fowers et al., 2021).
Tematické číslo pozýva na filozofické, pedagogické, psychologické, sociologické, empirické a metodologické skúmanie vzťahov medzi týmito pojmami. Vítané sú príspevky venované cieľom výchovy a vzdelávania, vzťahu medzi osobnou pohodou, charakterom a dobrým životom, premene deklarovaných hodnôt na konanie, možnostiam a hraniciam sociálno‑emocionálneho učenia, úlohe učiteľa a kultúry školy, ako aj spôsobom hodnotenia ľudského rozkvetu, cností a charakteru bez ich neprimeranej redukcie na merateľné kompetencie.
Osobitne vítame teoretické a empirické štúdie zo slovenského a českého prostredia, komparatívne výskumy, analýzy kurikulárnych dokumentov a vzdelávacích politík, príklady pedagogickej praxe i interdisciplinárne príspevky.

Topic: Bridging the Knowledge–Action Gap in Character Education : Theory, Research, and Educational Practice
Language: English
Annotation:
Character education seeks not only to help learners distinguish right from wrong but also to cultivate the dispositions and habits that enable them to act accordingly. Yet one of the oldest and most persistent questions in moral philosophy and educational research remains unresolved: Why do people so often fail to act in accordance with what they know to be right?
From Aristotle’s assertion that the purpose of ethical inquiry is not merely to know virtue but to become virtuous, to Kant’s recognition of the tension between moral duty and human inclination, and Hume’s emphasis on the motivational role of emotions, scholars have long acknowledged the complexity of translating moral understanding into moral action. Martin Buber captured this paradox memorably by observing that even the most notorious liar may eloquently write about the value of truthfulness. Across philosophical traditions, the central challenge remains the same: moral knowledge does not automatically produce moral behaviour.
This phenomenon is widely discussed as the knowledge–action gap (Darnell et al., 2019; James, 2014), while related research has emerged under concepts such as the reason–action gap, attitude–behaviour gap (Caruana et al., 2016), intention–behaviour gap (Conner & Norman, 2022; Godin et al., 2005; Sheeran & Webb, 2016), moral judgment–moral action gap (Walker, 2004), character gap (Miller, 2017), or the knowledge–attitudes–practice gap. Although these perspectives differ in emphasis, they all point to a fundamental educational challenge—the limited power of cognitive understanding alone to shape character and guide action.
Recent advances in character education, moral psychology, behavioural science, and educational research increasingly suggest that closing this gap requires integrative, multi-component approaches that combine cognitive, emotional, motivational, social, and contextual dimensions of learning. Rather than seeking a single explanatory mechanism, contemporary scholarship is exploring how habits, practical wisdom, moral identity, emotions, reflective practice, social relationships, and institutional cultures interact in the development of moral agency (Jubilee Centre Framework for Character Education, 2022).
This issue invites original theoretical, empirical, methodological, and practice-oriented contributions that deepen our understanding of the knowledge–action gap and explore ways of bridging it through education. We welcome submissions from researchers working in education, psychology, philosophy, sociology, behavioural sciences, and related disciplines, as well as interdisciplinary collaborations.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- conceptual and philosophical analyses of the knowledge–action gap and related constructs;
- theoretical frameworks explaining the relationship between moral knowledge, character, practical wisdom, and action;
- empirical studies examining discrepancies between moral beliefs, intentions, values, and behaviour;
- developmental perspectives on the emergence and reduction of the knowledge–action gap across the lifespan;
- the role of emotions, motivation, identity, habits, self-regulation, and moral imagination in translating knowledge into action;
- intervention studies evaluating character education programmes, virtue-based education, civic and moral education, or other educational initiatives designed to promote moral action;
- experimental, quasi-experimental, action research, design-based research, and implementation studies investigating effective educational strategies;
- methodological innovations for assessing coherence between ethical understanding, character dispositions, and observable behaviour;
- school climate, teacher characteristics, leadership, and institutional factors supporting or hindering moral action;
- curriculum research addressing the integration of character and civic education into educational systems;
- comparative and cross-cultural studies of the knowledge–action gap;
- applications of virtue-based approaches beyond schooling, including healthcare, environmental sustainability, consumer behaviour, organisational life, digital citizenship, and public engagement.
We particularly encourage submissions that address questions such as:
- How can character education move beyond moral understanding toward sustained moral action?
- Which educational approaches most effectively reduce the gap between ethical knowledge and behaviour?
- Can virtue-based approaches provide a coherent framework for addressing the knowledge–action gap across different domains of civic and professional life?
- How should researchers conceptualise and measure the alignment between moral understanding, character, and action?
- What contextual, developmental, or institutional conditions enable individuals to act consistently with their moral convictions?
By bringing together diverse theoretical perspectives, methodological approaches, and educational contexts, this issue aims to advance both scholarship and practice in one of the most fundamental challenges of character education: fostering the conditions under which knowing the good increasingly becomes doing the good.

Topic: Podporné opatrenia a inkluzívne vzdelávanie : Medzi vzdelávacou politikou a školskou praxou

Topic: Dialogues on Education in Central Europe’s Totalitarian Past
Language: English
Annotation: The recurrence of populist sentiments during election cycles underscores a multifaceted challenge faced by European democracies. The roots of this resurgence are deeply intertwined with historical legacies, where the scars of dictatorial and totalitarian regimes linger, influencing the collective memory of societies. These historical echoes manifest in the political landscape, shaping the narratives that gain traction during elections. Understanding how historical narratives associated with authoritarian/totalitarian regimes, influence contemporary political discourse is crucial for safeguarding the principles of democracy. The aim of this issue of the journal will be to examine the various causes, methods and consequences of totalitarian practices in the field of education and the suppression of human rights and freedoms in the area of Central Europe in a common dialogue, which can be a call for further dialogue.
